From "Street Scene" in 2010 to "Classical Broadway" last season, Opéra de Toulon has become the stage for American musicals in France. Opéra de Toulon's new production of Stephen Sondheim's musical.
After "Sweeney Todd" and "Into the Woods", which flirt with opera, "Putting It Together" returns, like "Follies", to the spirit of the revue.
Starting with existing pieces from his own works, Sondheim takes us on a tour of those songs which, in a perfect balance between music and words, have made the specificity of his art, so skilful at bringing to the stage the afflictions of everyday life, here diffracted between the imaginary and the real in the backstage of a rehearsal.
