This cycling circuit goes around the Lavours marsh nature reserve and crosses the atypical wine-growing villages of the South of Bugey.
The route starting from the heart of the Marais de Lavours is located a few steps from the 1.2 km path on stilts, free access all year round and from the Maison du Marais, a museographic and educational space dedicated to the natural resources of the Marais de Lavours and natural areas of Bugey.
The route first passes through Culoz, a town with a rich heritage located at the foot of the giant of Bugey, the Grand Colombier. It is possible during the crossing of the city to see the castle of Montveran, built on the rock of Montveran by Pierre de Luyrieu in 1316, this castle housed in particular the constable of Bourbon, the Serpollet brothers, Serge Prokofiev in 1928-29 or Henriette d'Angeville.
The loop then crosses the Rhône river to join the ViaRhôna cycle path. Attention, the greatest caution is recommended to cyclists when crossing the bridge at the exit of Culoz.
The ViaRhôna cycle path, along the Rhône from Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea, crosses Chanaz, this small, very aesthetic Savoyard village is located on the Savière canal between the Rhône and Lake Bourget.
The return is then made through the wine-growing villages of the south of Bugey. It is possible to make a round trip along the path along the north coast of Lake Barterand to admire Gargantua and the Vouivre, legends of Bugey carved in the rock, then to visit the heritage of the village of Vongnes by going to the Bugiste cellar. The Bugiste cellar includes a museum of winegrowing traditions and a museum of stone craft tools and offers tours and tastings of its cellar every day of the year.
