In the immediate vicinity of the reception building, walk in the footsteps of the miners and try to follow the trace of the vein, study the digging techniques and the means of transporting the ore over time.
Children discover how rock is transformed into metal and everyday objects. A guided tour of the St. Louis Gallery and the Metallurgy Park, in addition to the Iron Museum, give an insight into what metal is and how it is used in everyday life.
In three 45-minute sessions, youngsters discover the world of mining and the different aspects of the trades of farmer-miner, lumberjack-coalcutter and metallurgist: rock sorting, use of old-fashioned tools and lighting, modes of transport, coal-making, processing and forging. The 3 modules (Musée du fer, Galerie St Louis, Parc métallurgique) are led by our mediators, and include role-playing as well as participatory information gathering.
