With a length of just over 5 km, the Grand Colombier mountain pastures loop takes you to the impressive Chanduraz viewpoint (1260 m) offering a panorama of Lake Bourget and the surrounding mountains.
Reach the heights of the Ain mountains.
This moderately challenging hike offers the opportunity to discover an exceptional panorama.
A favorite spot for chamois, the Roche de Chanduraz juts out at the southern end of the Grand Colombier massif, overlooking the village of Béon and the Marais de Lavours nature reserve. While the far end of the rock is inaccessible, this outcrop offers a remarkable view of Lake Bourget and the surrounding mountains of the Chartreuse, Vercors, Bauges, and Belledonne ranges.
While immersed in the Grand Colombier mountain pastures, hikers are asked to behave respectfully toward the herds, shepherds, and the environment.
- Avoid sudden movements toward the herds.
- Avoid herds if cows are on the trail.
- Close the fences after passing to prevent animals from escaping.
- Respect the shepherd's cottage by not encroaching on this private space.
- Keep your dog on a leash at all times.
- Leave no trace of your presence, except for footprints.
- Do not pick wildflowers.
- Stay on marked trails.
