This short hike, starting from Les Coches or Montchavin, winds its way up through a larch forest and offers a beautiful view of the valley, Mont Blanc and the Beaufortain Massif.
The path winds its way up through the larch forest, offering magnificent views of the valley, Mont Blanc and the Beaufortain Massif. Some of the old chalets are reminiscent of bygone days. Refreshments are available in the chalet restaurant at the finish.
From Montchavin: Take the Coches gondola (free) to the skating rink plateau (Pignard).
From Les Coches: Take the Telebufette (free) to the skating rink plateau.
On the plateau, reach the ESF snow garden (P) and walk along the stone building. Pass under the Petit Sauget ski lift and carefully cross the ski run. A sign indicates the start. Climb up through the forest, then turn left (P). A wide path leads to several ruined chalets (P). Fork right, then head for large wooden EDF poles (P). The route climbs up a wide snowfield (P) and then arrives near the stone houses of Le Chanton. The finish line is 100m higher, near the Vanoise Express cable car.
This is a pleasant walk. It can be continued in the direction of Plan Peisey using the cable car. The return journey takes the same route.
Caution: When the snow is icy, the route can be tricky. We strongly advise you to wear snowshoes or crampons.
