Au pied du Parc naturel régional du massif des Bauges Géoparc Unesco, La Belle Via débute côté Savoie sur les rives du lac du Bourget, le plus grand lac naturel de France, bordé de villages viticoles et de quelques rares villages de pêcheurs.
Deux options de départ possibles : de Chanaz, d'où l'on rejoint le grand port d’Aix-les-Bains en bateau par le canal de Savières en longeant la côte sauvage et l'abbaye d'Hautecombe, ou d'Aix-les-Bains, ville de bien-être thermal au riche patrimoine antique et Belle Époque. La véloroute longe le lac par une très scénique piste cyclable panoramique jusqu'au Bourget-du-Lac, et rejoint Chambéry, ville d'Art et d'Histoire, par la voie verte de la Leysse, une des premières voies vertes de France très utilisée par les vélotaffeurs savoyards !
