Vanoise National Park

Pets allowed: Non

The Vanoise National Park, this oldest of france's national parks, was founded in 1963. This exceptional area of natural alpine heritage is covering some 130,000 acres in the "central zone".

The massif is bounded by the high valleys of the Tarentaise and the Maurienne. The variation of the rock structure of the Vanoise and its location at a climatic crossroads result in a remarkably rich variety of landscapes, flora and fauna. In addition to the native alpine flora, the 1000 plant species recorded on this massif also include asian and mediterranean species, and the arctic-alpine species that survived from the quaternary glaciations.
