In 1996, this car park won the award issued by the European Parking Association for Europe's most remarkable car park renovation project. The architects were Michel Targe and Jean-Michel Wilmotte and the artist Daniel Buren.
Daniel Buren's work "Sens dessus dessous" can be viewed from the square through a periscope (Daniel Buren's work can also be seen in the Place des Terreaux). The car park designer is Yan D. Pennors, for this and the other Lyon Parc Auto car parks.
