At 2770m, it marks the limit between Haute Maurienne Vanoise and Tarentaise. The road that crosses it is the only road crossing within the Vanoise National Park and the highest point of the Route des Grandes Alpes.
Inaugurated in 1937 by President Albert Lebrun, the pass road is open from June to October. After Bonneval sur Arc, it crosses the valley of the Lenta and in three laces in a mineral landscape, allows to contemplate the glaciers of the Vanoise and Gran Paradiso.
