The Paroi des Militaires is one of the region's major climbing sites, and was the venue for the very first World Climbing Competition in 1985! Walter Bonatti, Guido Gervasutti and Yannick Seigneur opened routes on this magnificent face, rated from 4 to 8a!

When you arrive in the Vallée Étroite, this imposing cliff is sure to catch your eye... the Paroi des Militaire is simply magnificent! Ranging from 4 to 8a, with heights from 50 to 300 meters, it lends itself to all levels of climbing. This limestone cliff, where you can climb in the cool of a hot summer's day, is sure to delight climbers of all abilities, with its rises, slabs, vertical walls and overhangs.

Grading: 4 to 8a

Number of routes: 47 spread over 3 sectors

Height: 50 to 300m (the major routes in the Albatros sector are 7 pitches long)

Exposure: north

Recommended period: June to September

Altitude: 1690m

Approach walk: 1 minute

Access: From Névache, cross the Col de l'Echelle in the direction of Bardonecchia. Once you've descended the pass, you'll come to a crossroads: take a sharp left (towards Les Granges de la Vallée Étroite), the small, slightly damaged carriage road rises into this magnificent valley, which became French after the Second World War, but is still Italian at heart! Park at the first parking lot on the left.

A little further on, the two Italian refuges I Re Magi and Terzo Alpini are ready to welcome you!
