Site, building totally accessible

Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, the abbey church was the brainchild of the Antonines, a hospitable order of medical monks that spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages, around the relics of Anthony the Egyptian.

It welcomed pilgrims from all over the world to gather near the relics of Saint Anthony the Egyptian, and benefit from his miraculous healing powers. Thanks to Prosper Mérimée, the abbey church has been a listed historic monument since 1840. Its architectural beauty is complemented by a richly decorated interior, with murals, sumptuous woodwork and exquisite reliquaries. A 17th-century organ with 44 stops stands opposite the nave.

Also worth seeing is the abbey treasury.
