The Parish of Lhuis extends north-eastwards from the banks of the River Rhône to the summit of Mount Tentanet at height of 1,000m. It is a picturesque village that includes numerous farms and vineyards.
Bourgeois residences, farm labourer’s homes and vigneron’s houses give the village of Lhuis a rich architectural heritage and a distinctive character all of its own. The Church of the Assumption in the centre of the village bears witness to nearly 2,000 years of religious worship in the area. Built in the Roman style the church was declared a national monument in 1930. Lhuis today has the remains of 10 communal ovens that were used for baking bread in days gone by as well as several lavoirs and fountains. It is a lovely peaceful village which is great for a stroll.
