The name given to the square in April 2010 in tribute to these children and the six adults accompanying them, who were also deported and killed, helps us to continue to fulfil our duty of remembrance.
These martyrs were arrested by the Lyon Gestapo, run by Klaus Barbie, on 6 April 1944. They were held for a night at Fort Montluc before being transferred to Drancy and then to Auschwitz, where 42 were gassed on arrival; two adolescents were shot in Estonia.
The location was chosen for its proximity to the Centre for the History of the Resistance.
