Built in 1975 by architects Pascal Hausemann & Pascal Le Merdy, this village hall is a real architectural feat, which was awarded the "Patrimoine du XXème siècle" label in 2003 and has been classified as a Historic Monument since 2016.
In 1971, Doctor Jacques Miguet, the commune's new mayor, realized that "Douvaine must equip itself with infrastructures worthy of anticipating the town's development over the next 20 years...". The idea was to create an attractive town center that would make Douvaine more than just a village you had to pass through on your way to Geneva. Bringing life to the area, making it possible to set up shops and housing, bringing people together - in short, creating a real Douvain heart.
A lover of art in general, Jacques Miguet called on the "Habitat Evolutif" group, an association of four architects: Pascal Hausermann, Claude Costy, Jean Louis Chaneac and Pascal le Merdy. The result was this project, futuristic for some, innovative for others, but so essential!
Work began in April 1973: as announced on the plans, the Douvaine village hall is a capsule set on the ground, with a concrete base and peripheral arches setting the "plastic" jewel that is the roof. For in the initial construction, this "Bubble" is adorned with a three-part domed roof, three graceful curves respectively translucent, blue and gold. From this first curve, the blue-lacquered steel dome rises from a glued-laminated timber frame, topped with a gold nipple.
The original project included the creation of a neighborhood, but only La Bulle, the elementary school and the square were eventually built.
Since 2013, the commune, aware of its unique architectural heritage, has embarked on a campaign to restore and enhance the estate.
Following the request, the "Bulle" has been registered on the list of Historic Monuments, along with the elementary school.
Today, it has become one of Douvain's most popular attractions.
