This care home occupies a former Visitandine convent which was established in 1627 by Saint Joan of Chantal, the grandmother of Madame de Sévigné. It houses a number of pharmaceutical jars in an 18th-century apothecary whose woodwork is listed as historical heritage.
Legend has it that a lime tree in the courtyard grew on the very spot where Saint Joan of Chantal lost a few drops of blood after pricking her finger while sewing. This charitable religious congregation combined contemplation with serving the poor and the sick. The nuns left the convent during the Revolution.
The ancient pharmacy can only be visited during Heritage Days.
