The Compagnie des Pièces de Rechange dared to ask - and the answer is as brilliant as it is hilarious. The adaptation by Alexy Cohen and Henri Alexandre reinvents Les Précieuses Ridicules with a sass and inventiveness that hits the nail on the head with every scene.

Gorgibus is no ordinary family man. He's the Monsieur Loyal of a circus troupe that's seen better days - much better. His current ambition? Simple: marry off his two daughters to his two in-house clowns. Two white clowns as cheesy as they are boring, as old-fashioned as the Sunday night juggling act.

Except that his daughters, Cathos and Magdelon, have other plans. They want art with a capital A. Contemporary, ambitious circus, far from the family big top that smells of sawdust and regrets. They dream of grandeur, elegance and modernity - and certainly not of ending their lives in the arms of two clowns in oversized costumes.

Rejected and humiliated, the two clowns don't intend to leave it at that. They're going to find a ruse - a good one, a real one - to cleanse their honor and knock these two precious ladies off their pedestal. And our two heroines, so sure of themselves, so certain of recognizing talent and sophistication... fall for it with an absolutely delicious naiveté.
