Tarentaise cattle
Tarentaise are the most common breed of cow in the Alps. The breed is well suited to living conditions in the mountains and the cows are recognisable by their tancoloured coats and cowbell around their neck. Tarentaise cows are raised for milk production, used to make Beaufort cheese.
