The museum presents the discoveries made in the Balmes cave and the visitor becomes a witness to the culture and cultural influences of these mountain people who had a relationship with their environment that went far beyond mere subsistence.

The first farmers and stockbreeders of the Neolithic period settled about 5,600 years ago in the Balmes cave overlooking Val Cenis-Sollières. The museum presents all the objects of the daily life of these first mountain dwellers of Haute Maurienne.

The objects and handicrafts on display in the museum plunge the visitor into the daily life of these mountain people, who had a relationship with their environment that went far beyond mere subsistence.
