The Roman milestone which you can see at the Jaillet Pass, used to mark a border between the Ceutrons and the Viennois (Allobroges).
At an altitude of 1723m it, symbolizes the limits of the Roman empire, bearing witness to the romanization of Savoie.
This granite boundary marker, erected by the Roman conquerors in 74 AD, is one of those that marked the border between the territories of two ancient subjugated tribes, the Ceutrons, indigenous Alpine people, and the Allobroges, a later Celtic settlement. The inscription engraved on the marker, "Fines", means "Limits" in Latin. From then on, these milestones would mark the border between two provinces of the Roman Empire.
