Formerly the château of the bishops of Grenoble (from the 14th century to the Revolution), it features a square tower covered by a slate dome, a stone balcony and two main buildings. Visible from the road, the château is now a private residence.

Château d'Herbeys was owned by Monseigneur Le Camus, nicknamed the "Cardinal of the mountains", who enlarged and embellished the château after the French Revolution, and banker Louis Piat-Desval, who, along with the Marquis de Dion, was a pioneer of the automobile and one of the first Frenchmen to obtain a driver's license.

In 1949, the Italian-style drawing room, the dining room, the square tower covered by a four-sided slate dome, the stone balcony on the façade overlooking the park and the remarkable trompe-l'œil decorations in the Dome Room were listed.
