In accordance with Baroque tradition, the church's austere exterior contrasts dramatically with its ornate interior. Its enormous bell tower sets it apart from neighbouring churches. Can you guess what it used to be?

The church was built in 1674 and dedicated to Saint Agathe (Agatha) who was invoked for protection against fires, amongst other things. Every year, in early February, the villagers of Queige celebrate their patron saint by attending mass where the bread is blessed, shared and then kept in the village houses throughout the year to protect them against fire. Saint Agathe is also celebrated in painting: you can find her on the vaulted ceiling, surrounded by the evangelists.

Step forward and examine the floral motifs that adorn the chancel. You can also admire the main altarpiece with its twisted columns decorated with vines and birds pecking grapes!

If, like the birds, you're not afraid of heights, then head up to the bell tower: the old keep once owned by Queige's feudal lords and one of the few towers in the Savoie region open to public. Will you be one of the lucky few to witness the spectacle of the four bells in motion?
