In 1960, the town undertook work on the banks of the Chalaronne, building a sewage system and dam and planting flowers. With its blossom-covered footbridge, the river is a special place much appreciated by the townspeople and visitors alike.
Le Pont de la Piétanée, notamment, conduit au vieux quartier pittoresque. Il y a 8 ponts fleuris à Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, ce qui lui donne le surnom de "Petite Venise de la Dombes"
