Set 1250 m above sea level, the commune consists of the main village (Granier) and a hamlet (La Thuile).
Backing on to the Beaufortain massif, it is built on the slopes of the Versant du Soleil, overlooking the Tarentaise valley. It has a year-round population of 366. The view from the village is breathtaking, from the Vanoise glaciers and mountain peaks to the large ski resorts on the other side of the valley.
