The present edifice dates back tfor the most part to1882-1884. After the destruction of the village by the floods of the Rhône in 1716, a church was built in the place of anotherone that was going to ruin.
The commune of Thil had a church ( a chapel: the chapel of Saint-Laurent) since the 12th century which was swept away. The successive floods eventually caused deep damage in the church. On the 1716 flood, the church collapsed. In 1718_1719, a new church was built with low_quality materials and in 1879 , the Municipal Council found that the church was falling into ruin. So, the church was destroyed to have a new one built on the 1882-1884 site. The old bell-tower was preserved to save money , until 1987; then closed to avoid a lot of water leaking that damaged the choir of the church.
The 2 lime trees planted in front of the church after 1873 were cut in march 2008.
